Fiesta organizations honored by festival groups

The Fiesta San Antonio Commission and three of its nonprofit member organizations were honored in July at the Texas Festivals and Events Association’s annual conference. The commission and two member groups took awards at the September conference of the International Festivals and Events Association.

The organizations present awards to festival organizations in marketing, sponsorship, merchandise, media and other categories. The Fiesta Commission received Gold Zenith awards for its Fiesta Carnival promotion, the broadcast of the Fiesta Flambeau Parade (with KABB), its newsletter, its Fiesta schedule brochure, the San Antonio Express-News Fiesta insert, its 2008 poster, its media kit and its popular rhinestone Fiesta pin.

The commission received a Silver honor in IFEA’s Pinnacle Awards for a t-shirt with “Fiesta” spelled out in rhinestones. It took Bronzes for the schedule brochure, its poster the media kit and a cookbook, The Little Kitchens of Fiesta, Vol. II (Las Cocinitas de Fiesta).

The St. Mary’s University Alumni Association, which does the Fiesta Oyster Bake, received Gold Zenith awards for Miscellaneous Multimedia, Best Event to Benefit a Charity and Best Hat. It received Gold IFEA Pinnacles for Best Event to Benefit a Charity and Best Public Safety/Security Plan for an Event and a Silver for its newsletter.

The San Antonio Parks Foundation, which produces Fiestas Fantasías at Market Square, was honored by TFEA (with KENS-5) for the TV program “Celebrate San Antonio,” for its newsletter, for its two Jazz’ SAlive posters and for its Fiesta medal.

The Fiesta Flambeau Parade Association won a Gold Zenith award for the cover of its Fiesta Flambeau Parade Program.

The San Antonio Conservation Society, sponsor of A Night in Old San Antonio, received a Silver Pinnacle from IFEA for its commemorative poster.

TFEA is a nonprofit organization that provides local programming to help its members learn, grow and increase professional standards and practices in festival production. IFEA’s mission is “To inspire and enable those in our industry to realize their dreams, build community and sustain success through celebration.”
